Headaches, Neck Pain and Migraine
Poor posture, trauma or stress may be contributing factors for people who suffer from headaches, neck pain and migraine. Research shows that many headaches are ‘cervicogenic’; caused by poor motion or restriction in the upper neck.
Headache symptoms can range from dull, poorly localized discomfort in a ‘band’ around the head, to pain behind the eyes, to a throbbing headache. Some of those symptoms may have other causes, ranging from infection to tumours.
Nerve irritation can be caused by a stiff joint in the neck which is supposed to move. This nerve irritation is known as dysafferentation.
Tension Headaches:
Tension headaches are often the result of spinal issues or emotional stress. Muscles in the upper neck can go into spasm, causing pain referral consistent with tension headaches.
Migraines:
Migraines are another form of headache. There is a large ‘cervicogenic’ component for many migraines overlaid with lifestyle factors that can cause a cycle of upper neck muscle tension. Some allergies or intolerances for proteins such as tyramines, found in many common foods or additives, may contribute to ongoing repetitive episodes of migraine.
Sinus headaches:
Sinus headaches can usually be linked to an infection, inflammation or blockage of the sinuses.
Chiropractic Care and Headaches
Chiropractic care aims to treat the cause rather than to ease the symptoms of headaches. There are many reasons why you may be experiencing a sore or stiff neck.
A chiropractor, highly trained in the examination of the spinal column, can easily tell if your problems can be helped with a chiropractic adjustment, or if the problem has a different cause. Follow this link to book: https://www.cobramchiro.com.au/contact/
